Jim Goodwin

Bio

Coach Jim Goodwin’s legacy in education and athletics spans nearly four decades of impact, leadership, and commitment to student-athletes.

A 1981 graduate of Salisbury High School, Coach Goodwin was a three-sport athlete competing in football, wrestling, and track & field. He continued his football career at Lees-McRae College before earning his Bachelor of Arts in History from the University of Mississippi (Ole Miss) in 1985. In 1986, he completed his teaching certification at Catawba College.

That same year, Coach Goodwin began his career at Bandys High School as a Social Studies teacher, where he faithfully served students from 1986 until his retirement in 2017. Even after retiring from the classroom, his passion for coaching never faded. In 2019, he returned to the sidelines at Bandys and has now completed his 38th year in coaching.

In 1987, Coach Goodwin married Patricia Beatty Goodwin, and together they have raised three accomplished children:

Luke Runyon Goodwin (born 1989), Linebackers and Special Teams Coach at Mars Hill University

Elizabeth Virginia Goodwin (born 1992), Academic Counselor at Wake Forest University

Jesse Pemberton Goodwin (born 1993), Professional with Metal Roofing Systems

Coach Goodwin’s life reflects dedication—to his family, his profession, and generations of student-athletes who have been shaped by his leadership. His influence at Bandys High School continues to leave a lasting mark on Trojan Country.
